Daily Menus

Healthy Food = Healthy Kids

Here at Alta Children’s Center, we follow Utah Top Star 5-Star program guidelines, which emphasize nutritious, developmentally appropriate meals and snacks that support children’s health, energy, and active learning.

We prioritize whole foods, whole grains, and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. While we do not always serve organic, we intentionally source fresh, local ingredients whenever possible—many coming directly from Ms. Ilse’s Garden. We avoid highly processed foods and prepare snacks using simple, real ingredients.

Morning and afternoon snacks are offered buffet-style during free-choice play rather than as a seated meal. This allows children to listen to their bodies, eat when they need fuel, and choose from a variety of options designed to support energy—especially for active mornings and hiking days.

All leftover food is thoughtfully reused as part of our full-cycle, environmentally conscious ecosystem. Food scraps are composted and used both to create chicken feed for Ilse’s chickens and to enrich the garden soil, helping grow future produce for our program. This closed-loop system supports sustainability, reduces waste, and models environmental responsibility for children in a meaningful, hands-on way.
