List of things for your Child to pack
Hello parents, we are excited to meet your child and provide a wonderful experience for them at the Alta Summer Camp. Below are a few very important things to know, the short version is:
Make sure your invoice is paid via Brightwheel and you know your 4 digit code (this can be found under your parent account). Your invoice will indicate whether your child is signed up for Extended Day or Full Day camp. Please be sure to double check which camp they are signed up for.
Bring your kiddo to camp with sunscreen on, sturdy shoes, a filled water bottle, and spare clothes in a light backpack and extra reusable bag.
Reminder that at the time of registration, you clicked the box that said you reviewed the Camper Code of Conduct with your child, if they were sleeping at time of registration be sure to review prior to arriving at camp.
If your child has any allergies, disabilities, or medical conditions please update their Brightwheel profile to let us know as well as talk with the director at check-in. The active director, either Mr. Mike or Isabel aka Isabawk, will have a lanyard on indicating that they are the director. Please be sure to give any medications to them and fill out a medication release form. We want to make sure we’re all very aware of any extra precautions to keep your kiddo safe and happy!
The vans depart and arrive on time at the Little Cottonwood Canyon Park and Ride (at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon): 4385 Little Cottonwood Canyon Rd, Sandy, UT, 84092. It has come to our attention that Apple Maps will take you to the wrong location. Please be sure you are at the Park and Ride at the mouth of the canyon where there is a fork in the road. PS. Be sure to use the correct one-way entrance and exit into and out of the Park and Ride parking lot. Ready and a bit early is key, as we are strict about departure time in the morning and even stricter about pick-ups.
The vans leave the Park and Ride promptly at 8:00am for Extended Day (please arrive between 7:45-7:58am) and 9:00am for Full Day (please arrive between 8:45-8:58am); Pick up BY 4:00pm for Full Day (please arrive between 3:45-3:58pm) and 5:00pm for Extended Day (please arrive between 4:45-4:58pm). The hut with the binoculars is where your child will be met for check-in/out protocol. If the team is in a huddle, please wait patiently for them to finish.
We love being engaged with your children and it is our top priority. We do not check email or answer the phone during camp hours. Message us via Brightwheel (NOT TO ADMIN) and a director will reply as soon as possible.
We understand things come up and you may need to contact us outside of camp hours. If you have an emergency situation, you may send an ADMIN message. If you message between 6pm-7am, it will be responded to after 7am on weekdays.
Please update your child’s Brightwheel profile picture with a recent photo and add as much info as possible to the app so we have it at our fingertips. They will not be transitioned to transportation without these added to their account. The Brightwheel app is how we will check your child in and out at pick-up and drop-off. It will make things run so much better on the first day of camp if you know the 4-digit code that is affiliated with your account.
If you are carpooling, please be sure to add any approved pick up people to your child’s Brightwheel profile.
We would never want to keep your child from contacting you if they have their own device, like a Gabb or Gizmo watch. However, we do ask that when a child does want to call, they first find a counselor to inform them on what is going on to avoid confusion. Please communicate this to your kiddo.
We will provide:
- Additional sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and even backpacks to borrow.
- Very yummy, nutritious meals, lots of snacks and drinks. See the menu on our website.
- A choice to have a small personal First Aid Kit.
- A choice to have a journal for reflections of the day at camp.
- An Alta Summer Camp pencil (Bawk pencil).
- A wristband at check-in (this color coded wristband helps us keep track of Extended Day and Full Day campers). We collect them back at the end of the day to disinfect (they are welcome to keep theirs if they choose to). These wristbands have our center phone number and comply with Child Care Licensing rules and regulations.
Please send your child with:
- Sturdy shoes for hiking/playing outdoors. Hiking boots, tennis shoes, etc.
- A light rain jacket is encouraged for windy and rainy days which are sometimes in the forecast.
- Extra clothes, a pair of socks, and shoes in a bag to switch out muddy shoes and send home for cleaning. Each child gets two cubbies for personal belongings.
- Their personal water bottle with their name on it! The vans have Sharpies if their water bottle needs to be labeled on the day of drop-off.
- Sunscreen already on is a great way to have a successful start to a day at summer camp. We highly encourage that everyone shows up to camp having already applied sunscreen to ensure a smoother morning.
- Feel free to pack additional snacks for your kiddo too. We have granola bars and fruit pouches in the counselors’ backpacks on hikes.
- Hiking backpacks are easy and convenient to carry water, snacks and extras. It is recommended, but not necessary that your child has one. If you do send one, please leave it light and only have things they would need for a hike. A reusable bag with the other extra's is great. Each child has two cubbies to leave their items in, which we ask them to take home daily to be checked and possibly switched out since we often get wet and muddy outside.
- PS. LABEL, LABEL, LABEL EVERYTHING!!!! Lost and Found boxes will be at the vans/bus each afternoon at pick-up, because we know kids get distracted by all the fun we have. Please check the lost and found at the end of each day!
- Sunglasses are a very important thing to bring to summer camp.
- If your kiddo borrows a pair of our sunglasses please have them returned the next day!
- Donations of recycled materials. Small boxes, clean containers, even glass jars. We use it all to be environmentally conscious, and we need more!!!
We always plan on operating according to the schedule posted on our website, spending the majority of our time outside, however we take the children's temperament and weather changes in mind. We rotate through 19 different themes, but keep it flexible as the environment changes; we follow suit and change with it.
We look forward to meeting you and your child at Alta Summer Camp!
